Warning. This post contains spoilers for ‘The Vermilion Pawn’.
Most role-playing games have lists of favourite monsters. I have never seen one for WFRP, though, so I thought I would rectify the omission. However, my list is slightly different. In WFRP the deadliest foes are rarely found in dungeons, and that is reflected in the list. Here are my top five WFRP1 adversaries (both monsters and villains), starting with number five.
Ken Rolston’s contribution to WFRP regularly receives criticism. But he was never short of unusual ideas and one of them is the first of my favourite WFRP foes: Sikinnes, the demon cabinet.
Few players can resist rifling through someone else’s belongings. Yet a frustrated demon bound to a cabinet and able to manifest thousands of poisonous mouths on tendrils might just cause them to reconsider. By then, though, it’s usually too late.
Even the name has a deliciously malevolent ring to it. Neither clichéd like Realm of Chaos use names (Chaosbiter Deathcupboard?), nor an incomprehensible random string like the true names (s’k’nnshlualwlngnhmwxyz?). Yet it still sounds still unearthly and vicious.
Every campaign should have a Sikinnes.
Sikinnes appeared in ‘The Vermilion Pawn’ in White Dwarf 103, reprinted in Apocrypha 2.
